A long, cold day

A long, cold day

Just been working all day in Coventry. Currently freezing, having spent most of the day outdoors, and even 5 layers doesn’t keep you warm forever. And a hi-vis probably shouldn’t count as a layer either, being made of a material so light Lady GaGa would shy away from wearing it alone. Does the job of glowing brightly well enough, though.

Going to different areas usually throws up different challenges, and today was one of those days.

The first job was quite sad, a shut down pub, steel plated for security, though too late… Inside was shocking, with all the copper pipes ripped out the walls, vending machines pried open, glasses, mirrors, windows and, incredibly, even the toilets smashed to smithereens. Nearly every door was off the hinges, and the boiler had been stolen. Pool balls had been used as projectiles, with the remains of the glasses behind the bar the ‘skittles’. Senseless destruction, as well as the slightly understandable metal theft, mean the whole building will likely be pulled down. Repair would be near impossible. The most amazing bit? The PIR alarm sensors had been cut, and the wires stolen!

It was an unusual steel door too, a type I’ve not seen before, but that took only about half an hour to open without damage, and was re-secured fully afterwards.

After that were another 5 jobs, and that somehow took until 4:30 from first thing this morning, what with one thing and another.

But warrant work is like that.
