Why choose NKT Security
A genuine passion for historic locks
Genuine interest in historic locks
Restoring old locks is something we truly enjoy. Most locksmiths don’t want to bother with antique hardware — it’s time-consuming and requires specialist knowledge. We actively seek out this kind of work because we find it rewarding, and that shows in the quality of the result.
Respect for original craftsmanship
Historic locks were often beautifully made and deserve to be treated accordingly. We don’t default to replacement when restoration is possible. Our goal is always to preserve the original where we can, and to improve on it only where we must.
Honest advice
If restoration is worthwhile, we’ll say so. If replacement is the better option — because the lock is damaged beyond repair or doesn’t justify the cost — we’ll tell you that too. You’ll always get an honest assessment before any work begins.
Local & independent
Based in Edinburgh and serving surrounding areas and wider Scotland, we’re a small, independent business — not a franchise. Every job matters to us personally. We’re happy to travel for significant heritage work or specialist consultations.
Areas covered
Edinburgh, Lothians, Fife, Borders & wider Scotland
We cover Edinburgh and the Lothians as standard, and are happy to travel further for significant heritage projects. If you have an important historic lock or a listed building with specialist requirements, please get in touch. We’ll always let you know if a job falls outside our range.
Photographs are extremely helpful for assessing old or unusual locks before a visit. Send images via email or WhatsApp and we’ll give you an initial view of what’s involved and whether restoration is likely to be worthwhile.
